In Others' Footsteps - A Walk In Corfu Town
Led by writer and Philhelene Matthew Hisbent, local academic and polyglot Christina Papadatou and the Festival's own Philip Louvros, familiarise yourself with the Mediterranean town that the Durrells, Gordon of Khartoum, Edward Lear, Ioannis Capodistrias and other luminaries once called home. The culmination of the walk will be at Nobile Wine Bar with
a debut reading from her new play, After Melissa, by writer, dramatist and filmmaker Jane Coyle

Dionysus and Demeter are the Greek god and goddess of wine and food but, during this specially curated event, they will be joined by Apollo, the god of music too. Sommelier and gastronomy consultant Stamatis Iseris will carefully pair a selection of Greek fine wines with suitably partnered local food specialities and the tastings will be accompanied by especially composed musical interludes for a truly immersive and complete experience.

EL GRECO: JAZZ AGE OLD MASTER
Domenikos Theotokopoulos, known as El Greco, was born in Crete, trained in Venice under Titian and found success
in Spain. This c16th Master seems to have been centuries ahead of his time and is thought to have strongly
influenced the Expressionist and Cubist movements and found a new appreciative audience as the most Modern
of the Old Masters during the early 20th century.
Accompanied with a little music from renowned New York cabaret voice and children’s author Craig Pomranz, our expert panel will discuss El Greco’s life, his inspirations and his legacy and relevance. Director of the Corfu Annexe of Greece's National Gallery, Marina Papasotiriou will be joined by Professor Sarah Churchwell and fine arts journalist and travel author Louise Nicholson
